Assistant Professor
Dr. Shashi Kant Sharma is an economist with specialization in Health Economics, Insurance Economics, Impact Evaluation, and Efficiency and Productivity Analysis, supported by strong empirical and econometric expertise. He completed his Ph.D. in Economics from the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. His doctoral research examines the factors influencing health insurance uptake and healthcare utilization, with particular emphasis on publicly funded health insurance schemes, institutional quality, and socio-economic disparities in India.
He holds a master’s degree in economics from Banaras Hindu University, where he specialized in Advanced Econometrics, and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the same institution. His academic training has provided a solid foundation in microeconomic theory, applied econometrics, panel data methods, stochastic frontier analysis, data envelopment analysis, and impact evaluation techniques. He has gained valuable research and teaching experience at IIT Roorkee. He worked as a Research Associate on an ICSSR-sponsored project, which involved empirical analysis of climate variability and agricultural outcomes. In addition, he worked as a Teaching Assistant for Microeconomics for undergraduate B.Tech. courses, where he assisted in course delivery, tutorials, evaluation, and student mentoring. Dr. Sharma has actively engaged with the academic community by presenting his research at several national and international conferences, including meetings organized by the Indian Econometric Society and the Asia-Pacific Risk and Insurance Association. His work has been presented at conferences hosted by leading institutions across India and abroad, reflecting the growing international relevance of his research. His academic contributions have been recognized through awards and grants such as the Yu Ziyou Memorial Award, Kyobo Life Travel Scholarship, and ICSSR International Travel Grant. His ongoing research focuses on healthcare utilization under publicly funded health insurance schemes and efficiency analysis in the insurance sector.
