Nitya Chutani

Assistant Professor

Biosketch

Dr. Nitya Chutani is an Assistant Professor in the Economics and International Business area at the Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH), India. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the Centre for the Study of Regional Development (CSRD), Jawaharlal Nehru University, where her doctoral research examined fiscal federalism and public financing of health and education in India. She also holds an M.Sc. in Economics from the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune, and a B.A. (Hons.) in Economics from Hansraj aCollege, University of Delhi.

Prior to joining BIMTECH, Dr. Chutani worked as a Research Fellow at the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP), an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Finance, Government of India. At NIPFP, she contributed to major policy research projects, including an evaluation of the Fifteenth Finance Commission’s Health Sector Grants funded by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and analysis of public financial management reforms such as the Single Nodal Account (SNA) system. Her work involved extensive data analysis and field research in states such as Bihar, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Meghalaya, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

She has previously served as Assistant Professor at Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce, University of Delhi, teaching econometrics, macroeconomics, and research methodology. Her research interests include public finance, fiscal federalism, health and education financing, and public policy. She remains actively engaged in reimagining strategies to address structural and financial barriers to effective policy implementation in social sector financing.
